Jonathan was the youngest of our joined
family of six children. Six
kids, two dogs and two adults in a small house in Key West is a tight fit,
but somehow it worked. We felt blessed to live and play in “Paradise”. Jon
was a sweet and generous soul who
left us much too soon and we all miss him
so much it hurts. His lively sense of humor and good natured antics inspired
much of the love and laughter in our house.
The
Jonathan dePoo-Gorman Memorial and Scholarship
Fund was established in March 2002 with the monies from Jon’s personal
savings account and his Prepaid College account. The fund has continued to
grow with donations from many generous souls... friends, family, coworkers
and our Postal union brothers and sisters. So far we have sponsored six
students for faith based summer fellowship programs and the "Juggernauts"
a local hockey team for 12-13 year olds. The first “official”
scholarships were awarded in May 2005 to kids
from Jonathan’s graduating class, the Key West High School Class of 2005. We
have continued the awards each year since then. In the future we also hope
to sponsor school programs that encourage character development. That
would include programs that foster personal growth, programs that promote
interfaith and diversity communication, and educational programs
that encourage kids to make responsible and safe choices in life.
